Our Animals

We have four animals in our household. Two cats and two dogs.

Adam and I have both grown up with animals and so when we moved into our fist house in England we decided that it was very empty with just the two of us. We decided that we wanted a dog which was small enough to move around the house, but not to small so that it was not a proper Dog. We both decided that a staffie was the way to go. We bought Elijah from breeders in Humberside in 2002. He was born in February and so has just had his 5th birthday.

Elijah as a small puppy

Elijah was a very cute little boy when he was small and has grown into a very handsome staffie. He is a delight to have and looks after us both very well. He can have his mischievous moments and we have to keep a close eye on him when the sheep are close to the fence. He does not try to bite them but he would dearly love to sniff them and play with them. He is a big fan of the bullocks on the surrounding farm and he loves to lick the snot off their noses!

Cleopatra is a lilac Oriental. She was also born in February 2002 so although she and Elijah are the same age she does not like him at all. I always say she looked a little bit like E.T. when she was a kitten as she had really big ears and the longest legs I have ever seen on a cat. She has grown into a fine Cat and loves the fact that she now lives in the "wilds" of Scotland. She is an avid hunter and usually catches at least 2 - 3 shrews a week that we know of.

She loves to be close to people and loves to say hello to visitors. If she can get away with it she sleeps all night in the bed with us, usually on my head! Cleopatra was bought from breeders in Bristol. She is a very dainty looking cat and she can look really out of place in the fields around the house. She really likes the fact that if she wants to she can get away from the other animals. Cleopatra was not best pleased when we bought Josiah and stopped purring for about two years. She is now however much happier now and has rediscovered her rather loud purr.

Josiah is our younger cat. He was born in July 2004. He is a chocolate point Siamese with the bluest eyes I have ever seen in a cat. He is a born hunter with huge fangs that stick out of his mouth and claws nearly a centimeter long. He loves being outside in the the "wilds" and is also an avid hunter. Elijah and Josiah get on like a house on fire and often sleep together when they get cold.

There are more photographs in the photo albums section under animals if you want to see pictures of them as they grew up.

The final picture is my favorite, at long last after 2 years the animals have got used to one another and we can have a peaceful morning in bed without any scuffling, hissing or snarling.

Sheba is the newest addition to the family. She is a brindle Staffie and at date of writing is 13 1/2 weeks old. She is managing to keep Elijah out of trouble but is being a bit of a handful in the house training department. It has not helped that we have had horrible weather recently which means that we could not lent them out of the house for long enough periods of time. Adam has also got around to fixing the fence so now when we do have nice weather we can leave the animals outside without the fear of them possibly getting out into the fields and irritating the cattle and sheep.  If you would like to see some pictures of Sheba they are in the photo album section.
